Roy Keane hasn’t worked in management since leaving Ipswich Town back in January 2011.

The former Manchester United captain enjoyed a great start to life as a manager - helping Sunderland secure promotion to the Premier League in 2007 - but things soon turned sour for the Irishman at the Stadium of Light and he resigned just over two years after taking the job.

Keane lasted less than two years at Portman Road and hasn’t worked as a No. 1 since.

Instead, he’s worked as the Republic of Ireland’s assistant manager since 2013. The 45-year-old also had a spell working as Aston Villa’s assistant manager in 2014.

Keane has combined his role as Martin O’Neill’s number two with his job analysing Champions League matches for ITV Sport and, as things stand, he seems fairly content with how things are going.

Keane linked with shock move

However, according to shock reports this evening, Keane could be approached for arguably the most surprising managerial move of 2017.

According to Israeli news outlet ONE, per the Irish Independent, the chairman of the Israel Football Association is considering appointing Keane to take over as the national team’s manager ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

“Ofer Eini, chairman of the Israel Football Association, is considering the possibility of appointing Roy Keane as coach of the Israeli national team,” the report reads. “Eini is backing coach Elisha Levy, but is not happy with the way the team looks and is considering replacing Elisha at the end of the campaign with the former player, who currently serves as assistant coach of the Ireland national team.”

It would be amazing if it happens

Roy Keane in charge of the Israeli national team, can you imagine!

Let’s face it, this would be amazing.

Israel have taken nine points from their six World Cup 2018 qualifiers so far and currently sit behind Spain, Italy and Albania in Group G.

With no chance of qualifying for next summer’s finals in Russia, Israel are now looking ahead to the European Championships in three years time.

And they reckon Keane could be just the man to lead them to the tournament.
