Jon Jones seems to be very intrigued by the possibility of facing off against Brock Lesnar in a potential UFC superfight.

"Bones" comes off of a light heavyweight title win last month (Sat. July 29, 2017) when he became the first man to finish Daniel Cormier in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Shortly before the match, rumors began to circulate that current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar was planning on dropping his title at SummerSlam this month and aiming for a UFC return towards the end of this year for a superfight with "Bones." That was later proven to be false as Lesnar would need to re-enter the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) drug testing pool and serve out the remainder of his suspension - putting any potential UFC return off until next Summer.

Following his win over Cormier, Jones responded to the rumors of a potential superfight with Brock Lesnar, calling out "The Beast" by inviting him to the Octagon if he wanted to know what it was like "to get your a** kicked by someone 40 pounds smaller than you." Brock Lesnar responded to this by saying "Be careful what you wish for, young man."

Recently, Jones took to the Jim and Sam Show to talk about his calling out of Lesnar, and revealed that it was actually UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor who inspired him to (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“It’s a big money fight,” said Jones. “I think I was inspired by Conor McGregor, to be honest with you. To just dare and to reach, reach higher. Me versus Brock Lesnar is somewhat equivalent to Mayweather and McGregor.

"A lot of people would assume that I would lose that fight. Brock Lesnar is super athletic. He was a Division I national wrestling champion. Yeah he’s older but he’s just a freak. He’s a rare talent. I don’t know what the betting odds would be on that one.

“It’s just like, do the impossible. Be the David and Goliath story just the same way McGregor dares to compete against Floyd Mayweather. You know what, if you come up short, at least you have more balls than the average American that even step in there.

"But if you win, the glory that comes with beating a Floyd Mayweather or beating a Brock Lesnar, it’s huge.”

“I haven’t really looked into Brock Lesnar’s situation too much but I know that once he enters the drug testing pool, he would have to complete six months of that.

"Right now he’s refusing to join the pool. I’m not accusing him of being on steroids or whatever, but I don’t see why you wouldn’t just start the process if you were being a clean athlete.”

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen with him, but I know Brock’s a great businessman and I know he knows that this would be huge money. I’m 40 pounds lighter than him so I’m sure that just the thought of being the first person to defeat me has to be running through his mind.

"And the pay day. So I’m sure the fight is gonna happen. It’s just gonna be a matter of time.”
