Manchester United were given a taste of what to expect in this season's Champions League when they faced Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup last night.

Real dominated proceedings in Macedonia and opened the scoring through Casemiro in the 24th minute.

Dani Carvajal's delightful chipped pass found the Brazilian to volley past David de Gea inside the 18-yard box.

Isco then made it 2-0 with seven minutes played of the second half, the Spaniard playing a one-two with Gareth Bale before finishing with aplomb.

Despite being on the back foot, United had many opportunities to score but were ultimately wasteful in front of goal.

Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku both missed guilt-edged chances within the space of two seconds, while Marcus Rashford fluffed his lines when put through one-on-one with Keylor Navas.

The Red Devils eventually pulled one back on the hour mark when Lukaku reacted quickest to Navas' save from Nemanja Matic, but they couldn't muster a comeback.

There were plenty of positives and negatives to take from the game for Jose Mourinho's side, who have ambitions of challenging for the Premier League title this term.

Further signings are expected before the transfer window closes as Mourinho continues to bolster his squad, while a few players are set to be moved on, too.

Marouane Fellaini is one of such players amidst interest from Galatasaray and he once again demonstrated against Real why he isn't up to scratch.

While a threat in the air, Fellaini lost possession on a number of occasions at the Philip II Arena after being introduced in the 56th minute.

If anything, the best thing about the Belgian's performance was a rather hilarious picture that emerged from the game (see below).

MOVE OVER, PHIL JONES

Wow. Fellaini's hideous action shot quickly went viral on social media, with fans comparing him to the great Phil Jones, who has become renowned for his hilarious facial expressions in-game.

But credit where it's due to Fellaini, he reacted to the unflattering photo in similarly hilarious fashion on Twitter after the game. Check out his tweet.

FELLAINI REACTS TO... FELLAINI

Alongside the mug shot of himself, he wrote: "Thank you to everyone who posted & sent me this 😂😂😂😂😂😂.”

Fellaini's tweet has racked up over 50,000 retweets and 90,000 likes in the seven hours since he posted the tweet - so safe to say fans are loving it.
