It's fair to say that many eyebrows were raised when David Luiz returned to Chelsea on the final day of last year's summer transfer window.

He was somewhat of a liability during his first spell in England, but new manager Antonio Conte decided to bring him back in a £34 million transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.

Luiz made 37 appearances at the heart of a back three and was named in the PFA Team of the Year as Chelsea regained the Premier League title in impressive fashion.

The charismatic centre-back produced consistently strong displays last season, however, he is also well known for the unique way in which he takes free-kicks.

Luiz, who has scored some screamers in his career so far, is extremely good at striking the ball from distance, and he's now revealed all to Sky Sports' Gary Neville.

Luiz explains his free-kick technique

That's right, the Manchester United legend, who once compared Luiz's defending to a little kid playing FIFA on PlayStation, was all ears as Luiz talked about his unusual technique.

The Chelsea star, who has a straight, direct run up when taking free-kicks, told Neville to picture a ping pong player trying to put top spin on the ball.

He insisted that you have to keep very straight, hit the ball with the side of your foot and move your knee up very quickly to generate movement.

Luiz also claimed that, if you want to copy his style, it's more important to focus on the technical aspect rather than the power of the strike.

In addition to teaching Neville, the Blues defender was also tasked with showing a youngster how to replicate his free-kicks in just 30 seconds.

Luiz may get a chance to showcase his unique style this Saturday when Chelsea begin the defence of the Premier League at home to Sean Dyche's Burnley.
