Baron Corbin is slowly but surely making a name for himself.

“The Lone Wolf” has found success on the blue brand over the past year and his biggest achievement yet while on the main roster is him winning the Money In The Bank briefcase at the Money In The Bank PPV event earlier this year. This briefcase holds a contract that guarantees him a WWE Championship match for the next year.

Corbi is scheduled to take on John Cena in a singles match at the upcoming SummerSlam PPV (pay-per-view) event. There are many fans that believe that Corbin could cash in his MITB briefcase during or after the WWE Championship match between champion Jinder Mahal and Shinsuke Nakamura at SummerSlam.

Dave Meltzer talked about Corbin on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. He brought up how Corbin could cash in his briefcase and argued he just isn’t ready to be the top guy on the blue brand.

He compared Corbin to Mahal and noted that Mahal has a better body but probably cleaner than Corbin. He added that Mahal works better promos and has better facial expressions. Meltzer would note that Corbin isn’t ready for a main event run as a singles star just yet. Here is what he had to say (h/t Wrestling News.co):

“I’m not saying Baron Corbin should never get pushed down the line or anything like that if he improves, that’s fine. But him as World Champion now… at least with Jinder there’s an excuse but Baron Corbin it’s just like it’s their freaking fetish with tall guys. It’s like, what has he done? What great matches has Baron Corbin had with anybody? You know, nothing. What great promos has he done?”

“His promos suck. Has he improved? Yes, he’s improved a lot. Yes, he can be in a tag team main event when he’s in there with AJ Styles and Sami Zayn and do his part? Yes, yes he’s okay there with Kevin Owens as a partner. Can he be a bully to Sami Zayn in an undercard match and have an average undercard match? Yes, he can. That’s not a world champion” Meltzer concluded.

SummerSlam takes place on August 20th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets. Both Raw and SmackDown rosters will be featured on the card. Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe in a Universal Championship Fatal 4-Way Match.
