Peter Gilbert endured a nightmare Northampton debut during the goalless stalemate against 10-man Grimsby.
Gilbert was dismissed after 50 minutes for impeding Danny North after he broke clear of the home defence.
The Mariners then had Robert Atkinson sent off 12 minutes from the end of what was a dour game.
In a first half in which neither side were able to make much in the way of openings, Northampton's best chances both fell to Adebayo Akinfenwa.
He first latched on to a poor back pass in the 35th minute, but could only shoot weakly at Nick Colgan and a minute before the break forced the Grimsby goalkeeper into a smart save when he got on the end of a Luke Guttridge cross.
Gilbert was dismissed just after the restart, but the 10-man Cobblers still came close to breaking the deadlock when Liam Davis found space only to fire just wide.
Atkinson then received a straight red card for a foul on Davis.
Damien McCrory forced a good save from Chris Dunn late on and, from the resulting corner, substitute Paul Linwood volleyed wide.
