It’s well known by now that Rey Mysterio will not be returning to WWE anytime soon.

Over the past month, it has been reported that Mysterio was talking to both GFW and WWE about coming into work for them after his 90-day no compete clause with Lucha Underground is up.

This has led to a lot of talk online about what the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion should do. With all of that said, it should be mentioned that his contract wouldn’t be up until after the third season of Lucha Underground is over on the El Rey Network.

It has to be noted that although Mysterio has had a lot of success while competing under the WWE banner, his exit from the company was not the greatest. If you recall, WWE held up his contract and basically froze it due to Mysterio being out of action with injuries. He was with the company for much longer than his contract originally called for.

Last Friday, Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated came out and reported that WWE has passed on bringing the former WWE Champion back. As to why this is the case, according to the report, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was not interested in working with Mysterio’s representation, specifically Konnan.

There has been some bad blood between McMahon and Konnan that dates back decades to when WWE invested thousands of dollars into the Max Moon character for Konnan. Instead of doing the character, Konnan decided to continue main-eventing in Mexico.

A new report has surfaced thanks to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. According to the report, the other reason that talks between the two sides broke down was due to Mysterio not being able to decide what he wanted to do. Mysterio going to Global Force Wrestling means that he would have the freedom to do side projects and other ventures.

Right now at this stage of his career, he would not be able to work the WWE schedule. The report also noted that Mysterio spoke with WWE hoping that they would offer him a deal with limited dates.
