The Premier League returned with a bang on Friday night, with Arsenal beating Leicester City 4-3 in an absolute thriller.

The Gunners, along with Liverpool and Chelsea, have broken their club record transfer fees this summer, so the battle at the top of the table looks set to be as fierce as ever.

Both Manchester clubs have invested heavily too, but Tottenham Hotspur have been extremely quiet in the window, failing to sign a single player thus far.

In fact, it was the club's transfer policy which was at the heart of the controversy surrounding Danny Rose's recent interview, which the Englishman has since apologised for.

In addition to forgiving Rose and accepting his apology, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino produced a hilarious response to his left-back's comments.

What did Danny Rose say?

Among many things, Rose claimed that he and his Spurs teammates were underpaid and asked his employees to sign well-known players, as opposed to "ones you had to Google".

Pochettino's funny response to Rose outburst

Speaking ahead of his team's trip to newly-promoted Newcastle United on Sunday, Pochettino responded to what Rose said about "Googling" people in funny fashion.

“When you sign players like Eric Dier, who are internationals today, nobody knew," the 45-year-old began, via The Mirror. "Or Dele Alli, who was in League One, or (N'Golo) Kante.

“I don't think it's a matter to joke about because with some of the international players today, maybe one or two years ago, none of us knew them very well."

The Argentinian, who led Spurs to a second-place finish last season, continued: "Also, when I first arrived here, people wanted to know who Mauricio Pochettino (was) too.

"If you remember five years ago, people said 'Who is Pochettino?' I'm sure they used Chrome or Google or Yahoo to find out (who I am).”

Pochettino on his way to success?

Pochettino's reaction to the whole situation proves that he didn't take it too seriously and that he's able to handle affairs in a light-hearted manner.

Eyebrows were raised when he replaced Nigel Adkins at Southampton in 2013, but he flourished in what was his first job in English football, and only his second managerial role overall.

Since moving to White Hart Lane, his qualities have been showcased for all to see and he is now held in high regard by many of the games most influential figures, including legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
