Now that John Cena’s WWE career is winding down, fans are hoping that we get to see some feuds and matches from him that will live long in the memory.

The 16-time world champion name-dropped a few stars from both Monday Night RAW and SmackDown LIVE when he made his return on the July 4 episode of SmackDown LIVE, hinting that he could feud with them down the line.

FEUDS

He put the likes of AJ Styles, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar and others on notice.

Once he’s done with Baron Corbin at SummerSlam, after losing to Shinsuke Nakamura last week on SmackDown LIVE, it’s thought that Cena will be moving to RAW as he’s a free agent.

However, there’s one name on the WWE roster who has never really had a genuine feud with Cena – Dolph Ziggler.

While he’s a fantastic wrestler, The Show-Off has never been given the chance to engage in a programme with Cena, and it looks like he never will either despite there being opportunities where a feud would have made sense.

Now, it has been revealed that he did have a chance to prove himself against Cena, but the latter wasn’t overly impressed.

Former WWE writer Kevin Eck recently appeared on Wade Keller’s Pro Wrestling Podcast, where they discussed how The Lone Wolf needs to impress at SummerSlam.

Eck then brought up a story on how guys are ultimately under pressure when they face Cena, as Vince McMahon believes Cena should only deal with top tier talent so he can consistently put on great matches.

CENA'S ADVICE

Eck then revealed that Vince decided at the advice of Cena that working with Ziggler wasn’t doing him justice.

He said: “Cena will be very honest in his assessment of you. Dolph Ziggler’s the first guy that comes to mind, when they had a singles programme together, in the beginning, John was all for it.

“John wanted to work with Dolph, and they did the house show loop together and as the heel, the heel traditionally calls the matches and John was letting Dolph call the matches and er…he wasn’t impressed.

“And apparently, John gave his assessment to Vince of Dolph and I think that sort of played into Vince’s thoughts already about Dolph.

“And once that programme ended, it ended rather abruptly because Vince told us in a booking meeting one day, ‘God, I think we’re doing a disservice to John, this is bringing John down.’

“And so Dolph was moved out of that programme.”

Vince and Triple H’s thoughts on Dolph have been well-documented online, but perhaps solid performance against big match John could have changed his fortunes.

Now, there’s speculation he’s being repackaged on SmackDown.
