Barcelona need a marquee signing this summer and it's safe to say Paulinho is not it.

Ernesto Valverde has been relatively quiet in his first transfer window in charge of the Catalonians.

Nelson Semedo has been brought in to address the club's infamous problems at right-back, while Gerard Deulofeu has also returned from Everton.

The big question, of course, is how Barca intend to replace Neymar with the €222million they received from his world record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

It's no secret that the Blaugrana would like his international team-mate, Philippe Coutinho, to come in and fill the void.

Taking him from Liverpool is proving easier said than done, however, as the Reds have rejected a second bid of £90million, per the Telegraph.

Should they be unable to land their number one target, then Paulo Dybala has been heavily linked.

The Juventus star scored 15 goals and assisted a further seven in all competitions last season as the Old Lady cruised to a sixth Scudetto in a row.

Unsurprisingly, having seen Leonardo Bonucci and Dani Alves both leave Turin this summer, Max Allegri is reluctant to lose any more key players.

Barca don't want him

And if Mundo Deportivo are to be believed, he may not have to worry.

The Spanish outlet are reporting that Barcelona have ditched plans to sign the 23-year-old because they don't feel he would be compatible with Lionel Messi.

What's particularly interesting about that stance is that the pair play together for Argentina.

The Albiceleste's manager Jorge Sampaoli plans to use Dybala, Messi, and Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi all in the same line-up.

In even more positive news for Allegri, Dybala isn't interested in leaving the Juventus Stadium for the sake of it, especially as he is committed to the club until 2022 by virtue of his relatively recent extension.

While Real Madrid have also been monitoring his progress in Serie A, he was only interested in quitting the champions if it meant a move to the Nou Camp.

That does not look as if it's going to materialise now, for as long as Messi remains in his prime, Valverde is going to build his team around him.
