Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spent some money this summer, but there is no doubt he would like to spend some more.

The Reds acquired Mohamed Salah from Roma for a reported £35 million, Andrew Robertson from Hull for £10 million and Dominic Solanke from Chelsea for a reported £3 million.

However, the club had been linked with huge money moves for RB Leipzig's Naby Keita and Southampton's Virgil van Dijk and they made huge offers for both.

Leipzig are refusing to sell Keita until at least next summer and Southampton reported Liverpool to the Premier League for their pursuit of Van Dijk.

However, Klopp insists the Reds remain active in the transfer market and to cope with the demands of the Champions League, they will look to make more additions.

He told reporters, via Goal: “We are still working on all parts.

“We are in talks and we work on all parts of the game. The squad at the moment is not too wide for a lot of games. That’s it.”

With Van Dijk handing in a transfer request - seemingly giving Liverpool hope they can re-enter the race - and Klopp's men drawing 3-3 with Watford on the opening day of the season, surely a move for the defender seems academic, right?

Apparently not. Klopp added: “We have to defend better.

“Of course we know it’s an important thing. I don’t feel comfortable but I know what to do.

“We got things wrong and what do I want to do to sort it? Buy a new player in that position? I am not really sure if it makes sense. We have to work on it because we did well in pre-season in this situation.”

Whether Klopp is just being coy on the matter remains to be seen, but Liverpool would have to spend something in the region of £60 million to secure the Dutchman if they did go back in for him.

Most Liverpool fans believe that they are lacking a top-class centre half that will lead them to the title, but does Klopp think the same?
