Sunday night's game between Barcelona and Real Madrid had everything you could possibly want from an El Clasico: goals, drama and red cards.

Real broke the deadlock in the 50th minute thanks to a Gerard Pique own goal, with Lionel Messi levelling the score from the penalty spot 13 minutes from time.

Cristiano Ronaldo then made it 2-1 with a stunning effort from outside the box before the game descended into chaos.

After celebrating with his shirt off to receive a yellow card, Ronaldo dived to try and win a penalty, giving the referee no choice but to show red for a second bookable offence.

The Portuguese reacted by shoving the referee in the back, which has resulted in a five-match ban that rules him out of the second leg.

But the action wasn't over, with Marco Asensio scoring a cracker in the 90th minute to secure an important 3-1 victory for Real.

It proved a hugely frustrating night for Barcelona, who enjoyed more possession and had more shots but were simply unable to beat Keylor Navas.

Messi cut a particularly dejected figure on the pitch and he's now reacted to the result with an x-rated Instagram post, describing it as "f***** up" (see below).

He wrote: "Día jodido pero hay que levantarse y seguir. Esto recién empieza," which translates to: "F***** up day but you have to get up and go. This is just starting."

Messi and co. are hoping to exact revenge on Real this season after missing out on La Liga and the Champions League to their rivals last term.

Losing Neymar hasn't helped the Blaugrana's case, but they've taken no time at all in trying to replace the Brazilian.

While Paulinho has reportedly arrived at the Camp Nou for €40 million, Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho could be on his way.

Coutinho is desperate to join Barcelona after handing in a transfer request at Anfield, though Jurgen Klopp insists he's going nowhere.
