Alexandre Lacazette wasn’t hanging around when it came to his league debut for Arsenal on Friday.

In fact, the Frenchman scored the fastest ever season-opening goal in 25 years of the Premier League in finding the net against Leicester City. Less than two minutes were on the clock when Kasper Schmeichel was beaten.

The deft header from Mohamed Elneny’s cross opened the scoring in what proved a crazy end-to-end clash at the Emirates. Goals from Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud eventually allowed Arsenal to win 4-3 from behind.

And it was a weekend for debutants with Lacazette having company when it came to hitting the ground running.

Romelu Lukaku scored a brace against West Ham, Mohamed Salah scored and assisted for Liverpool and Alvaro Morata nearly inspired a dramatic Chelsea comeback. Worthy mentions to Steve Mounie and Ahmed Hegazy, too.

It’s great to see from a fan’s perspective as new signings can often take weeks, if not months to settle into the groove of a new club and league.

Consequently, the arrival in question - particularly if a striker - is always somewhat relieved to break their duck. This is a league in which the likes of even Andriy Shevchenko have struggled, after all.

However, you’d be mistaken for thinking Lacazette wasn’t overly bothered about his aforementioned strike for Arsenal. Despite a £46.5 million price tag weighing down on him, the Frenchman simply spread his arms nonchalantly when the net rippled.

A befitting celebration if Arsenal were three goals clear or he worshipped Mario Balotelli but come on Alexandre; it was the moment fans were waiting for.

Of course, ultimately, it’s mere trivia but Lacazette was still keen to explain the reasoning behind his subdued celebration.

“I think it was still too early [to celebrate properly when I scored]. That's how it came about but I think it was perhaps too early to celebrate because we didn't know how the match was going to pan out,” he said, as per the Mirror.

Sound logic, maybe, but the ecstasy of finding the net usually defies any memory of the time on the clock. It maybe doesn’t warrant a Nani-like series of flips but you’d think something in the way of movement would be in order.

In a week in which Lukaku highlighted the Manchester United badge just 34 days into his spell, though, Lacazette has dodged the bullet and attention.

Besides, Arsenal fans won’t care what his celebration is if the goals continue to rain in. Perhaps winning the league title could tempt him into a knee slide.
