D-Generation X was one of the most controversial stables in WWE history, as the group performed some of the most outrageous stunts during their run through WWE.
One of the premiere members of the group was none other than former WWE European Champion Sean "X-Pac" Waltman. Waltman has been wrestling since 1989 and got his big break in WWE back in 1993. After a three year stint with the promotion he departed for then-rival promotion World Championship Wrestling (WCW) but returned to WWE to join DX just two years later. Waltman was a part of various DX segments that left fans howling with laughter or scratching their head in controversy as the group pushed the envelop various times during the Attitude Era.
One such segment was DX's impersonation of The Nation Of Domination, a group made up of several noticeable African American talents such as The Rock, Faarooq, Mark Henry, and The Godfather. The members of DX painted themselves brown in order to better resemble The Nation's skin color, something that was highly controversial for fans at the time, however, The Nation gave DX their blessing backstage before it all went down.
Recently, X-Pac did an interview with Uproxx to talk about his professional wrestling career and was asked what the most embarrassing thing he ever did with DX was - to which he responded it was impersonating The Nation Of Domination:
"Actually the only thing that I can honestly say I really regret now is the blackface thing. I did not understand. Here's the thing: I consider myself pretty well, for somebody that didn't go to high school, pretty well educated.
"I know a lot of things, but I never saw an actual minstrel show, blackface thing. Recently, I saw something about it and I was horrified, horrified at how mean-spirited all that stuff was. I look at it way different now."
On a recent episode of Table For Three on the WWE Network, Faarooq, Mark Henry, and The Godfather discussed the segment and noted they were fine with it and weren't offended at all because they gave DX their blessing beforehand.
