With the main event on Smackdown pitting the WWE Champion Jinder Mahal against John Cena, fans had high expectations.

With the Singh Brothers already ejected from ringside, Cena looked like he was about to earn a monumental victory over the WWE Champion.

That was when Corbin would take the chance to ambush his Summer Slam opponent and coast him the match.

Corbin's sole focus appeared to be Cena and when the 16 time champion was left laying at ringside, Corbin began to make his way to the back.

That was when the Lone Wolf turned back to the ring and made a beeline for the Champion and cashed in his briefcase.

The match took time to begin though as the official checked to see that Mahal was able to compete and while fans waited for the bell, Cena began to climb onto the ring apron.

Just when it began to look like Cena may strike before the bell rings, the noise fans had waited for sounded and the WWE title match was underway.

That was when Cena took his chance and caused the distraction to Corbin which allowed Mahal to catch him by surprise and retain his title.

A rare failed cash in attempt on Smackdown left a lot of fans happy to see Corbin not capture the WWE Championship, but very few were happier than Cena.

Mixed reaction

A lot of fans took to Twitter in the aftermath of Corbin's failed cash in attempt and while some were happy to see him fail, others were upset to see the briefcase go to waste.
