Last week, LeBron James told his Twitter followers that he needed to play some pickup ball.

On Tuesday, what might go down as the most high-profile pickup game in history occurred when James flew from Akron, Ohio to New York City to join friend Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks and Kevin Durant of the rival Golden State Warriors, among other NBA players.

Talk about a star-studded event.

The games took place at a gym called Life Time Athletic at Sky, where Melo spends most of his time training in the offseason according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes.

While there was limited game footage, Anthony uploaded the following highlights to Instagram:

Haynes reported that LeBron played for about two hours before hopping back on his private jet to travel back to Ohio in order to attend a charity event. Durant traveled from Washington DC in order to take part in the pick-up games.

Here is more footage of the competition:

They make it look so easy.

J.R. Smith, Enes Kanter, Lance Thomas, Dahntay Jones and Marshall Plumlee were some of the other players involved.

Interestingly, all three stars (James, Durant and Anthony) have found themselves in some type of drama this offseason.

James was cited as one of the major reasons that Kyrie Irving demanded a trade away from the Cavaliers. There are also major questions brewing following the rumor that James will be heading elsewhere next summer, thus leaving Cleveland for the second time. The Cavs are reportedly seriously planning for that to happen.

Anthony has been dealing with trade rumors for much of the last few seasons in New York and talks have intensified this summer. Earlier this month, he claimed the rumors were weighing him down, but that he'd found happiness.

"I had to find peace. I had to come to peace with myself and come to peace with kind of the situation I'm in. And kind of try to find happiness again," Anthony told ESPN’s Ian Begley in reference to the Knicks' publicly stating that they want to trade him. "I kind of lost that a little bit, but I'm finding it now, and it feels good."

Durant shocked the world when he took less than a max deal to ensure that the rest of the championship-winning core would return next season. As a result, he received backlash, but sharpshooter Nick Young was also able to sign with the Warriors, who are clearly the team to beat this season, both on paper and based on their recent domination.

It will be interesting to see if other stars get together to play some pick-up ball this summer. If so, due to the popularity of social media, everyone will find out.
