Derby have been knocked back in their attempt to sign goalkeeper Frank Fielding on loan from Blackburn.

Rams boss Nigel Clough is looking for cover for Stephen Bywater now that second-choice keeper Saul Deeney could be out for up to six weeks after suffering a freak injury in the build-up to the game at Swansea.

"They (Blackburn) have knocked us back. They do not want to let him out at the moment, so we are exploring other options," said Clough.

Deeney slipped and badly twisted his ankle outside the team's hotel on last week after the fire alarm had gone off.

Clough tried to sign Fielding in the summer and has now missed out on the Rovers keeper again.

Fielding, 21, has had loan spells at Wycombe, Northampton, Rochdale and Leeds but has yet to make a senior appearance for Blackburn.
