Port Vale defender Gareth Owen will be sidelined for up to two weeks having sustained a blow to his already fractured cheekbone during Tuesday night's 2-2 draw against Torquay.
Owen went into the clash wearing a protective face mask having made a speedy recovery from the fracture he sustained in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Bradford on November 10.
But he took another knock to the same area in midweek and will require a minor operation.
The influential centre-back will undergo surgery on Friday and is expected to be out for around 10 to 14 days.
Meanwhile, Geoff Horsfield got some valuable match fitness on his recent from a groin injury by playing 65 minutes for Vale's reserves on Wednesday night as they came from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw at Burton, Danny Glover scoring for Vale.
