With LeBron James set to become a free agent in 2018, rumours surrounding his future with the Cleveland Cavaliers are already dominating headlines. There is a genuine concern in Ohio that the King will leave his hometown team for the second time after he joined the Miami Heat in 2010.After Kyrie Irving also submitted a trade request, the Cavs face an uncertain year in which they could end up losing their star duo. With LeBron's plans up in the air, the franchise is not willing to make a decision on Irving as it could have an impact on LBJ's plans. The last time King James left Cleveland, the team was in the lottery for four straight years and failed to make the playoffs without him.A tweet by veteran NBA reporter Chris Sheridan on Wednesday claimed that James was "100 percent leaving Cleveland" and that his "relationship with the owners was beyond repair."
Unsurprisingly, this caused quite the reaction on social media and it even led to an interesting Twitter debate between Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant and rapper Lil Dicky.
The rapper tweeted: "If I'm Cleveland, I'm one thousand percent trading LeBron."
KD decided to jump to the defence of LBJ and replied: "u can't trade a legend. He is Cleveland, he gets to hold the cards"
It was perfectly put by Durant, who beat James in the Finals in June and claimed the Finals MVP.
The Dubs small forward continued the friendly debate as he and his counterpart discussed the possibility of LeBron being traded and what it would mean for Cleveland.
Of course, what both men probably failed to realise is that the four-time MVP is one of only three players in the league that has a no-trade clause in his contract.
A mention of that would've ended this debate immediately, but it was still interesting to see KD defend LBJ's legacy.
Overall, Durant was right because it would be inconceivable for the Cavs to even consider trading the league's best player even if they could.
The backlash from fans would have been enormous, particularly as they are frustrated with the owners at the moment.
The former OKC star summed the situation up in the best possible way when he said LeBron holds all the cards because he really does.
It's rare to see a player hold all the power to decide his future but James is no ordinary player and it'll be fascinating to see how this plays out over the next year.
