With the futures of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving up in the air, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be heading into the new season with uncertainty over where the franchise is headed. James will be a free agent in 2018 and there are growing doubts that he will remain in Ohio, while Kyrie Irving has already signalled his intention by submitting a trade request. Kyrie dropped the bombshell on the Cavs hierarchy last month and reports emerged of a fractured relationship between him and LeBron. The All-Star point guard reportedly no longer wants to play with King James and wants to join a team where he can be the star. The 25-year-old still has two years remaining on his existing contract in Cleveland so there is no pressure for the organisation to trade him in the near future. The revelations of the rift between Irving and James certainly took many by surprise as they didn't display any such problems throughout the last campaign. Owner Dan Gilbert said he expects Kyrie to report for training camp as normal and continue to be professional. His star players are certainly not the best of friends right now but Gilbert and Cavs will be pleased to hear of reports that they met one another in Miami recently. According to ESPN's Tony Rizzo: "From very reliable sources. Plural. Kyrie and LeBron were in the same room over the weekend in Florida…Apparently these guys were in the same room and here’s the deal. "I don’t know if there’s a thawing out process. All I do know is LeBron didn’t punch Kyrie the way Stephen A thought he would. I can report that. As for what they talked about or discussed…it was very cool. They didn’t get into any heated discussions."Rizzo is, of course, referring to a report by ESPN's Stephen A. Smith where he reported that if LeBron saw Kyrie, would be tempted to "beat his a--". This was quickly denied by LBJ via Twitter.

The good news for the Cavaliers is that the pair at least seem to be able to be cordial with one another and can be in each other's company.

It is a positive step as it was reported that Irving was not willing to meet with James at all and didn't want to discuss the matter.

Finally, the Wine and Gold have received one bit of positive news this summer, but it remains to be seen whether the All-Star duo can get back on the court together and help the team challenge for another title.
