The Philadelphia 76ers fans have trusted the process for long enough and could be rewarded next season as they have finally put together an exciting roster ready to compete. After drafting talented point guard Markelle Fultz with the number one overall pick in this year's draft, the Sixers now have an impressive young core that also features Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Dario Saric. The smart additions of veterans J.J. Redick and Amir Johnson further enhances their chances of having a winning season. With the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks losing All-Stars Paul George, Jimmy Butler and Paul Millsap respectively, it could potentially open up a number of playoff spots in the Eastern Conference with those teams significantly weakened. The 76ers are one team primed to make a run for a postseason berth, but that will rely largely on the health of their star players Simmons and Embiid, in particular. After missing two campaigns, the Cameroonian big man showed his quality last year despite playing just 31 games. He was a dominant presence on the court for Philly as he averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.  If he manages to stay on the floor, "The Process" has a bright NBA future ahead of him and it isn't just Sixers fans who are hoping he gets healthy.NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo is a huge admirer of Embiid and speaking to Sports Illustrated's Jake Fischer, he said the center was "like my son" and on a daily basis he tries to "find a place where I can pray for him, may God heal him".

In a recent interview with The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears, he spoke more in depth about the 23-year-old Sixers star.

"I just love the kid," he said. "I love his game. I love the approach the game he has on any given night the way he plays. There is not much concern if he can get hurt every game or not. He just wants to play the game.

"I’ve been praying a lot for him, a lot that he will get an opportunity to play a full season in the NBA. I hope it's coming. He really wants to follow in my footsteps, and I'm happy to see that."

Mutombo and the 76ers fans will be happy to know that Embiid expects to be ready for training camp and if he manages to get enough games under his belt, there's no telling what he and the franchise can achieve next season.
