It has been a very successful summer for Manchester United so far with Jose Mourinho finally building a squad capable of living up to the lofty expectations set by Sir Alex Ferguson.

The likes of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal failed to match the legendary Scottish coach but after some shrewd business this summer, the Red Devils look ready to reclaim their crown.

Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof have all been brought in to galvanise Mourinho's squad but reports in recent days suggest he is still keen on adding a fourth major acquisition before the window slams shut on August 31.

Judging by the rumour mills throughout the summer, a winger is likely to be the man to complete United's business.

The likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thomas Lemar have all been linked but as of yet, no deal has materialised.

At the start of the window, Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic was Mourinho's primary target after the 28-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign with the Nerazzurri.

However, due to issues with the former Wolfsburg man's price tag, it was thought that the potential deal for the flying winger was off.

But, it appears that Ed Woodward and Mourinho are still desperate to land their top target before the deadline.

According to the Mirror, United's chairman has even been engaged in secret meetings with Perisic's agent, Fali Ramadani, over the last few days, as the two parties try to thrash out a deal - United have currently offered £39m but the Italian outfit are holding out for £48m.

In a real shot of optimism for the Red Devils, Ramadani has even met with Inter officials in order to try and make sure they will allow the transfer to go through.

Perisic would likely slot straight into United's starting 11 if he makes the move to Old Trafford with Juan Mata likely to be the man condemned to the bench.
