Chris Weidman is one of the greatest middleweights in mixed martial arts (MMA) history, and the 33-year-old's career is far from over.

"The All American" started off his MMA career undefeated at 13-0, which included back-to-back win over, arguably, the greatest the sport has ever seen in Anderson Silva. After a wheel-kick gone wrong, however, in his middleweight title defense against Luke Rockhold in the co-main event of UFC 194 back in December of 2015 he was defeated for the first time in his career and dropped his title. He then suffered a third round knockout loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 205 in his own backyard of New York City after a fairly competitive fight, before getting a controversial second round knockout loss to Gegard Mousasi.

Weidman returned to his victorious ways last month (Sat. July 22, 2017) when he defeated Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC on FOX 25 from Uniondale, New York. The former 185 pound king locked in an arm-triangle choke for a third round submission win after two very competitive previous rounds.

He recently joined Submission Radio to talk about the win and what's next for him in his fighting career. While he would love to be middleweight champion again, that is currently locked up at the moment at Michael Bisping is set to defend his title against the returning Georges St-Pierre, with the winner needing to defend against interim champ Robbert Whittaker.

Weidman was asked about a possible move up to 205 pounds, to which he said that he would consider it (quotes via LowKickMMA):

“My goal is to be the champ and there’s no way of me getting to have the belt for two years or more just based on other people taking their time with taking fights,” Weidman said.

“It’s a weird place to be, it’s not interesting. I mean, if 185 doesn’t like, things don’t change, I want to maybe think about possibly going to 205. So if there’s a clear picture to a title at 205, then I would consider that.

"Let’s see, maybe Bisping or maybe GSP gets injured, I don’t know, and then I’ll be ready to go for November and Bisping won’t be able to scatter away from a guy like me. So that would be something that would work out for me nice for me. I’m in New York, I’m ready to go.”
