Conor McGregor is on the brink of being a part of one of the biggest combat sporting events of all time.

McGregor, the UFC's lightweight champion of the world, is set to make his professional boxing debut later this month (Sat. August 26, 2017) when he takes on, arguably, the greatest to have ever done it in undefeated 49-0 legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. It all goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in a 12 round bout at 154 pounds while both men wear eight ounce gloves. Mayweather is putting his legacy on the line against a knockout artist from the mixed martial arts (MMA) world who brings a whole lot of unknown to the table.

While not many in the boxing community are giving McGregor a chance in this fight, both Mayweather and McGregor are taking one another very seriously.

Many hardcore MMA fans have been a bit offended by how disrespectful the boxing community has been towards what McGregor brings to the table. Despite being a proven knockout artist and one of the most skilled MMA fighters the world has to offer today, many are expecting him to get embarrassed against "Money" and claim he won't even land a punch.

Although he and McGregor don't have the best relationship, "The Notorious One's" former opponent, Nate Diaz, recently spoke about the disrespect MMA has been receiving from boxing as of late, calling those remarks 'arrogant' (quotes via MMA Mania):

“All the boxers are criticizing Conor like ‘Conor will get embarrassed’, but that’s a real arrogant thing to say,” Diaz said in an interview uploaded to YouTube. “Wanna know something that’s even more embarrassing? (It’s) if Floyd fought Conor in a MMA match. (That) would be more embarrassing than if Conor fought Floyd in a boxing match.

“(Floyd) would get mounted and laughed at, and slapped around (and Conor) would smile at the crowd and wave. I’m never taking the MMA fighter over the boxer’s side when it comes to punching and s**t, but I’m like ‘don’t be talking s**t’,” Diaz said.

“(They say MMA fighters) ‘would get embarrassed, it’s ridiculous’ yeah, but we’re talking real fighting now you one-dimensional boxing f*cks. This is real life s**t, you’ll get embarrassed.”
