Conor McGregor is now less than one week away from stepping inside of a boxing ring for the first time as a professional, where he’ll attempt to cause perhaps the greatest upset in sporting history when he battles Floyd Mayweather Jr.

As expected, not everyone is giving the Notorious the best of chances when he stands opposite the 49-0 American, primarily because of the lack of experience while Money has been at the top of his game long before the Irishman was even on the map as a mixed martial arts star.

SUPER FIGHT

His meteoric rise saw him quickly rise to the pinnacle of the UFC by claiming both the featherweight and lightweight championships in dominant fashion, and made enough noise to not only get his American foe to sit up and listen, but lured him out of retirement for one final, mega-money fight.

While Mayweather will go back into retirement after the McGregor clash to enjoy the ridiculous amount of cheese he’ll earn, questions have been asked over McGregor’s future in the fighting game.

He probably won’t need to work a day in his life again, but McGregor has already stated that he’ll rule over both disciplines with an iron fist.

Over in the UFC, he could end up fighting Tony Ferguson or Kevin Lee as the two are set to do battle for the interim lightweight championship, while he’s already displayed an interest in heading over to Russia to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov and a trilogy against Nate Diaz is something MMA fans want to see.

Not many names – other than Paulie Malignaggi – have been mentioned as potential opponents for McGregor in the boxing ring, but he recently admitted that Manny Pacquiao is a name that could interest him down the line.

FUTURE

McGregor knows that the Filipino is one of the only boxers who comes close to matching Mayweather’s level of mainstream recognition, and is another fight which could get fans interested.

Manny Pacquiao v Jeff Horn

Despite being open to it, he destroyed Pac-Man during his media scrum, claiming he was mauled by Jeff Horn while others saw it as a blatant robbery.

According to MMA Fighting, he said: “Pacquiao wouldn’t be a bad one because he has a name.

“I don’t - look what happened to him in that last fight. He got mauled. He got absolutely mauled in that fight. People were crying ‘big robbery,’ I didn’t see no robbery in that fight. I saw a man that just got mauled in a fight.

“None of those names interest me at this present time. Like I said, I’m facing the god of boxing at the moment. [Mayweather] is supposedly the God of boxing and he could have stayed the God, he could have rode off 49-0.

“Instead, now I am here, and now I am the God of boxing.”
