In MMA, like in any sport, it's always important to make sure you are focused on your opponent and the task at hand to ensure by the end of the event, you come out victorious.

That's exactly what Otavio dos Santos didn't do during his lightweight fight against Amirkhan Adaev at Russian outfit Absolute Championship Berkut this past Saturday.

The Brazilian had the Russian down on the canvas during round one and was plummeting blows into his body and face from a full mount position, glancing every now and then at the official of this fight to see if he would stop the fight.

The referee decided against it, but before dos Santos could continue his onslaught on his opponent, Adaev managed to escape the pressure due to the Brazilian's lack of concentration.

As you can see in the video further down in this article, maybe dos Santos should have been more focused on just putting the fight away and waiting for the referee to intervene, rather than staring at him and essentially begging him to stop the fight in an unsportsmanlike way.

Ultimately, the Brazilian paid for his actions, as the Russian completed the ultimate comeback as you can see in the video below, winning the fight via TKO as he plummeted punches onto dos Santos' head. Notice how he didn't look at the referee once during that phase of the fight.

Here's another angle of the brutal comeback which must have felt bittersweet for Adaev after what dos Santos was doing in the first round of the fight. The home crowd in Russia certainly loved it, as they roared as he delivered the blows that would eventually end the bout.

Let this be a lesson to all of us. Always focus on the task at hand. Dos Santos certainly won't be forgetting to do that in his next fight.
