The Bank Holiday mega-fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is already set to break Pay-Per-View records globally this weekend, and now looks set to be the second biggest betting event of the entire year, coming in just behind the famous Grand National.

The fight is the first professional foray into a boxing ring for the 'Notorious' Irishman, so it might seem a foregone conclusion that victory against the 49-0 American may prove a step too far.

'Money' Mayweather has been involved in huge fights previously, with legends such as Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, and Ricky Hatton, and still come away with his unbeaten record.

That said, punters have clearly seen something in McGregor's UFC fights to warant backing him, and the number of people lumping their money on an unlikely Notorious victory means that if the Irishman does manage to win, it could be a disaster for the bookies, as they struggle to entice the public to put their money behind Mayweather.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "We can't give Mayweather away for love nor money, and punters are firmly in the McGregor camp whatever the odds on offer."

Of course, a large reason for this is that the odds are stacked so firmly in the favour of Mayweather.

He is odds on to take the spoils on Saturday night, meaning that those with bets on the American won't even double their money for calling the result.

The potential payout for an improbable McGregor victory is much higher, and certainly seems to be appealing to a large number of punters.

The only thing that is certain is that Saturday night is one of the most highly anticipated sporting events in years, with hundreds of millions expected to tune in across the world.

It seems as though a McGregor win would keep the vast majority of them happy!
