Barcelona fans are in desperate need of some good news this summer.
Neymar has left the Camp Nou for Paris Saint-Germain and they’ve only been able to add Paulinho to their squad since.
And it seems they’ve accepted defeat in their chase for Philippe Coutinho with Liverpool refusing to do business.
It’s not going well for Ernesto Valverde and co.
At least they’ve still got Lionel Messi to call upon.
However, in recent weeks there has been some doubt over the Argentine’s future at the club. He’s been outrageously linked with a move to Manchester City and is still yet to sign a new contract at the club despite the two parties seemingly agreeing terms.
Why Messi hasn't signed a new deal yet
So, what’s the hold-up?
Has the five-time Ballon d’Or changed his mind about his future?
Well, not exactly.
Spanish outlet Sport have revealed the truth about the delay in negotiations, stating that there is “an agenda problem.”
"They have not yet been able to square the agendas," Barcelona told Sport.
The perfect date
But don’t worry Barca fans, it’s nothing to worry about apparently.
The report explains that there is no last-minute difficulties and the agreement is 100% complete.
Instead, they’re looking for the perfect date to make the announcement so that it doesn’t interfere in the market of signing players - which they're actively pursuing.
So it seems they’re just waiting for the right moment to reveal that Messi has signed a mega new contract at the club rather than anything more sinister.
Mestre on Messi
The report backs up what the club's vice-president, Jordi Mestre, previously stated with him claiming he would be “very surprised” if the deal wasn’t officially completed soon.
“It is all agreed and we are waiting for a date for the signing. Everything is in place, with just the signature missing," Mestre said.
“Leo's renewal is something we are totally clear about and we have worked on it for a long time.
“Everything looks very good and I would be very surprised if the signing didn't happen."
Barcelona fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief.
