One NXT Champion could be stripped of their championship as a result of injury.

That champion is Asuka. WWE announced on Monday afternoon that NXT Women's Champion broke her right collarbone during her match with Ember Moon at this past Saturday at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III special. Typically, the recovery time for the injury is 6-8 weeks. WWE issued the following statement:

"During the match, she landed awkwardly from a throw from Ember Moon and was able to complete the match, but had notable pain and discomfort," ringside physician Dr. Jeffrey Westerfield said. "We performed an initial ultrasound backstage that was highly suspicious of a break that was later confirmed by an X-ray."

Dave Meltzer provided an update on Asuka’s injury during Monday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. When talking about the injury, he indicated that the sports entertainment company probably would not strip her of the NXT Women's Title at the upcoming television tapings in Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University this Thursday night.

These tapings will fill the next four episodes of NXT TV on the WWE Network. The belief is that the sports entertainment company Asuka will have enough time to recover from the injury and return to in-ring action in time. WWE will be holding the next Takeover special on November 18th in Houston, Texas at the Toyota Center.

The feeling is that WWE invested in a 17-month title run with Asuka and they do not want to end it by stripping her of the title. Make no mistake about it, WWE is still able to do without her at the upcoming tapings and then they could start the build to her next match at the September 13th tapings.

It will be interesting to see who WWE pairs her up with next. They could do a rematch between Asuka and Moon at the upcoming Takeover event, which is expected to be titled, NXT Takeover: Houston. We will find out how they go about her next feud at Thursday’s and next month’s tapings. You would have to think that it’s just a matter of time before WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and other WWE officials want to call her up to the main roster.
