The Undertaker was spotted heading to New York City last week ahead of SummerSlam weekend, sparking rumors that "The Deadman" could be making his WWE return.
Taker has been recognized as one of the most iconic Superstars in WWE history, as his persona has captivated WWE audiences throughout his 20 year career with the company. His career inside the ring began to slow down at WrestleMania 30 when his he was defeated by Brock Lesnar for the first time in WrestleMania competition, ending his 21-0 undefeated streak in which he defeated some of the greatest of all time. After two back-to-back wins over the likes of Bray Wyatt and Shane McMahon at WrestleMania, Taker then took on new WWE frontman Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 33.
Reigns would best Taker and hand him his second loss ever at WrestleMania, and essentially ended his professional wrestling career. After the match, Taker left his hat and cloak inside the ring as his signature bell tolled one last time before the lights went out.
Not having been seen on WWE TV since WrestleMania, a photo of a man who looked a lot like The Undertaker began to make the rounds online. The photographer claimed that Taker was on a plane from Texas to New York, and it just so happened that it was right before SummerSlam weekend.
WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler took to his podcast, Dinner With The King, to comment on the matter. Lawler said that he didn't see Taker at all during SummerSlam backstage, and speculated that he could've been in town to get his face scanned for an upcoming video game set to release next year (quotes via NoDQ.com):
“I did not see or hear him mentioned at all [backstage at SummerSlam]. I dress in the talent relations room where at one point or another everybody on the card came through that room and I never saw him.
"But you know what? Here’s something that I just realized. He may have been there because they were doing scans for a new game. Everybody that was on the show that night, myself included, had to be scanned.
"This company, it’s not the 2K people, it’s a different game that’s gonna be coming out next year. So everybody had to have their face scans and their body scans.”
