Ever since N'Golo Kante made the switch from Caen to the Premier League back in 2015, the French midfielder has been the centre of attention on English shores.

The perpetual ball of motion was the key man in Leicester's title-winning campaign of 2015/16, the driving force behind the world's most unlikely title triumph.

In the summer of 2016, Kante secured a move to Antonio Conte's Chelsea where he has enjoyed a similar level of success.

The Blues lifted the league title, allowing the French international to become the second player to win two consecutive Premier League titles with different clubs - Mark Schwarzer being the other.

He lifted the PFA Player of the Year award, however, he now faces a different task in 2017/18 with Champions League football returning to Stamford Bridge.

The all-action midfielder has never had to cope with such a large workload and it may come as something of a shock to him.

As such, former Chelsea star Claude Makelele has handed his countryman some very solid advice.

"He is a good player. It is difficult to find some who loves running for everything like him," Makelele told Goal.

"He plays for his partners. He is unbelievable. He is also clever and very serious. Around him, he has good people to help him to be a great player.

"It might be difficult for him when he gets older. He can’t run like that for 90 minutes. I think he will one day need to change the way he plays. He could use his intelligence even more, be selective about his runs.

"If you want to play every four days in the Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League, he might need to change he much he runs a little. However, Chelsea signed him to play the way that he plays with his running. So that’s the problem.

"It is important for him to understand to conserve his energy. He is still young, when he is older, he will understand how to change the way that he plays."

Makelele would certainly know a thing or two about coping with an extensive work load in the midfield engine room.

The former Real Madrid man was one of the greatest players to ever grace the position, so much so that it is often referred to as the 'Makelele role'.

Kante has shown in 2017 that there are some distinct flaws in his game, particularly with his passing and end product.

Perhaps taking his foot off the gas in a game Chelsea are dominating will help him conserve energy and allow him to flourish further.
