Liverpool have just eight more days to fend off Barcelona's advances for Philippe Coutinho before the transfer window closes.

The Blaugrana have already launched three huge bids for the Brazilian, with a third of £138million expected any day now.

Jurgen Klopp admits he has little say in what ultimately happens to the playmaker. The good news is that Fenway Sports Group share the manager's stance that Coutinho is not for sale at any price.

That is Liverpool's prerogative, as the 25-year-old signed a new deal in January to make him their highest-paid player.

It's admirable that the Reds are standing firm. Even if it seems likely that Coutinho will be a Barcelona player come September 1st, they may as well get every last penny out of them.

And Ernesto Valverde's side could essentially be held to ransom, as they're not short of cash. The world record sale of Neymar to PSG has left them with €222million to play with.

Gerard Pique has even suggested that this is hindering Barca, as other clubs know they can afford the summer market's extortionate prices.

It has to be said Pique doesn't have the best reputation for predicting what will happen in the transfer window. Se queda, eh Gerard?

Pique explains Barca's big problem

Nonetheless, it seems he's hit the nail on the head here.

"I think players still want to join Barcelona, and they are showing that as is the case with Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele. One by putting in a transfer request and the other with his actions at Dortmund," Pique told the Daily Mail.

"It suggests that they are both delighted about the idea of coming; they want to come.

‘The problem is, we sold Ney and the clubs know we have the money from that, and the market is the way it is. I don’t think it’s because the players don’t want to come, they are keen to come to Barca, but right now sign whatever player the club wants, it seems to cost more."

There can be no denying Coutinho wants to move to Catalonia, having handed in a transfer request. Dembele is also keen, and unlike Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund seem to have given up on retaining their prize asset.

The Barca board are under pressure to deliver some world-class signings, as the arrivals of Paulinho and Gerard Deulofeu just aren't cutting it.
