Liverpool fans have endured a turbulent ride through the summer transfer window up to now.

The Reds got off to a promising start relatively early on with the £37 million acquisition of Mohamed Salah from Roma on June 22.

The former Chelsea winger offers blistering speed and clever feet to Liverpool attacks, though his end product is already being questioned after two appearances.

While a debut goal is never disappointing, the context of Salah’s arrival has raised some concerns among the Anfield faithful.

Liverpool supporters could be forgiven if they were expecting more significant investment in the transfer market ahead of their prospective return to the Champions League this season.

The Merseyside club only confirmed their place in the group stage on Wednesday after beating Hoffenheim 4-2 on aggregate over a two-legged playoff round.

It’s certainly an enormous achievement to be involved in the prestigious competition, though it can also serve as a stark reminder of the gap between the best teams in Europe and the rest.

Jurgen Klopp has so far welcomed only three signings in Salah, Andrew Robertson and Dominic Solanke after his protracted interest in RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita came to nothing.

Furthermore, whether or not Philippe Coutinho will be a Liverpool player for much longer remains to be seen.

It can only be described as a disappointing summer for a team hoping to compete on four fronts this term.

LATE DEALS

But the window doesn't shut until next Thursday, leaving just enough time to push through any late deals.

Liverpool could yet add another fresh face or two before the August 31 deadline, especially if they cash in on one of their senior players.

And it seems they will be presented with the perfect opportunity to do just that, according to the Telegraph.

Klopp stands to collect an astonishing fee for Mamadou Sakho with West Brom thought to be preparing a club-record £30 million bid.

That’s no less than a £12 million profit on what Liverpool paid for him in September 2013.

Tony Pulis is set to lose his captain Jonny Evans to Manchester City in the coming days and understandably eager to secure a replacement for the Northern Ireland international.

SAKHO NOT NEEDED

Sakho –  who hasn't played for Liverpool since being sent home from a pre-season tour last July – is unlikely to fight his way back into first-team contention.

After spending last term on loan at Crystal Palace, the 27-year-old is on the outer fringes of Klopp’s squad, to say the least.

If a £30 million offer does come the Reds’ way, there's surely only one answer.
