This summer we got to see a different version of Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson and the internet absolutely loved it.The sharpshooter spent time in China this offseason and his antics in the Far East saw him become a social media sensation.Videos surfaced almost on a daily basis of Klay and it led to fans creating a special hashtag in his honour #ChinaKlay. The most memorable video was certainly Thompson's hilarious failed attempt at a 360 dunk which went viral in no time.

It even led to some of his Warriors teammates trolling him as Zaza Pachulia challenged him to a dunk contest and Steph Curry attempted to recreate it during his own visit to China.

At the time, the 27-year-old just laughed it off but now that he's back in the States, it's a topic that he inevitably had to address and he had some interesting reasons for missing the dunk.

Speaking to The Athletic‘s Anthony Slater, the Dubs shooting guard said: “I didn’t think, honestly, it was going to make it to the states, but it did. I was never known as a leaper.

"I’ll catch it sometimes and I’ll dunk on a few people, but I’ll forever be a shooter, and I think that kind of re-established that when I tried to pull off that 360, which I am good at.

"It was a long flight. I don’t know, the rim seemed like it might’ve been 10-foot-5. You never know.”

The three-time All-Star also expressed his surprise at how much attention he got and the birth of #ChinaKlay.

"I didn't really realise how viral I was going. Didn't have the Internet," he said.

Klay also said he can't wait to return to China but he'll have to redeem himself by actually making a 360 dunk when he's next in Asia.

Surprisingly, it has been reported this week that Thompson's name had cropped up in trade rumours with the Warriors apparently turning down a proposal from the Cleveland Cavaliers to swap him for Kyrie Irving, per The Undefeated's Marc Spears.

When asked about the rumoured report, Klay said: "It shows the Warriors believe in me and other teams want me to be a part of their success."

The three-time champion has been involved in trade rumours for a number of years but it's clear that the defending champions have no interest in breaking up the Splash Brothers.
