Considering the events of this summer, you’ll probably be hard pushed to find a Liverpool fan that is against proposals to close the summer transfer window before the Premier League season kicks off.

Jurgen Klopp has had to juggle the opening few matches of the season, including Liverpool’s Champions League qualifiers against Hoffenheim, with Barcelona’s interest in Philippe Coutinho.

The Spanish giants have submitted three bids for the Brazilian, all of which have been rejected.

Liverpool simply have no interest in selling the 25-year-old playmaker and do not care that their refusal to sell has upset Coutinho.

The player’s relationship with Klopp is said to have hit rock bottom but the German insists Coutinho will be welcomed back into his squad when he’s ready.

When that will be, Klopp has no idea. Liverpool claim a back injury has forced Coutinho to miss the first few weeks of the season but is anyone really buying that?

The arrival of Ousmane Dembele at Barcelona was good news for Liverpool and they’ve received more reasons to think Coutinho will stay in a report from the Mirror.

Coutinho will stay - on one condition

They claim that midfielder is prepared to stay at Anfield this season on one condition - that Liverpool agree to sell him to Barcelona next summer.

Coutinho will put aside his feelings towards Klopp and will be committed to the club if he receives assurances that he can leave for Barcelona in 2018.

So Coutinho has finally realised that he won’t be sold. And instead of being difficult and causing problems, he’s trying to ensure the next few months pass without distraction.

The former Inter Milan star probably thinks that by behaving well, Liverpool will be more likely to grant him his wish at the end of the season.

It’s a similar situation to the one Liverpool experienced with Luis Suarez in 2014, with the Uruguayan eventually getting his dream move to the Camp Nou.

And this one is likely to end with the same result.

Fair play to Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, for sticking to their guns after they announced that Coutinho wouldn’t be sold.

Plenty of Liverpool supporters thought they should have cashed in on the player, especially when Barcelona made their latest offer of £114m.

Now they can probably look forward to watching Coutinho in a side that already looks mightily impressive going forward.

A front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, with Coutinho just behind them?

That could be devastating.
