After months of anticipation, build-up and promises, Conor McGregor failed to deliver on Saturday night when he was stopped by Floyd Mayweather in the 10th round. For a while, it looked as if the Irishman – who was making his professional boxing debut against one of the greatest boxers of our generation – was going to pull out with a massive upset, having convincingly won the first three rounds.

LOSS

However, the boxing fans never doubted Money and for good reason, as he slowly picked up the pace in his usual fashion by turning it up a notch in the fourth round, before showing off his vast experience opposite a visibly-gassed McGregor on his way to victory.

The Notorious admitted that Money was more composed as he picked up win number 50 inside of the T-Mobile Arena, but the vast majority of fighters in the UFC were supportive of McGregor’s efforts and how he handled himself against the now-50-0 American.

One of McGregor’s more famous rivals in the UFC couldn’t help but show some respect, as Eddie Alvarez praised him for taking Mayweather to the 10th round.

REACTION

He posted: “Tips your caps to @TheNotoriousMMA, took TBE 10 f***ing rounds…great show for the world of MMA @UFC #GreatWork.”

Demetrious Johnson was confident that McGregor could have got the job done, showing his support for the way he represented MMA.

Mighty Mouse tweeted: “@TheNotoriousMMA did his thing tonight he represented our sport like a G!”

Cris Cyborg was certainly in a great mood after what had unfolded, referring to McGregor as a legend while also heaping praise on Mayweather.

The featherweight champion posted: “Amazing fight! @TheNotoriousMMA is a legend! @FloydMayweather is the best of our time! @UFC @DanaWhite you guys give the fans the fights!”

As you’ll be able to see below, plenty of his fellow fighters felt the same way, ranging from Stephen Thompson, Paige VanZant to Chris Weidman, with the latter unhappy with how the referee stopped the fight.

However, not everyone was in a congratulatory mood and didn’t feel the need to praise McGregor for his first-ever effort inside of a boxing ring as a professional, with Rafael dos Anjos and Kevin Lee two that look forward to meeting him inside of the Octagon.

The Brazilian posted: “Conor is a first round fighter, no cardio no heart you still owe me a fight #fouxo #chickenheart.”

The Motown Phenom added: “Conor @TheNotoriousMMA gotta come back now imma f**k that boy up after I whoop @TonyFergusonXT. #MichiganMade.”

You can’t blame them for throwing their name into the hat, but it’s great to see some of the classier responses to what McGregor tried to do.
