Although he didn’t win the fight, Conor McGregor surprised people against Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The UFC superstar, who had never boxed competitively before this weekend, managed to give Mayweather a decent fight at the T-Mobile Arena, despite being completely written off by many pundits beforehand.Yes, he was ultimately outclassed by the 40-year-old American, but he still lasted 10 rounds and landed 25.8 per cent (111) of his 430 punches - that’s 30 more punches than Manny Pacquiao managed to land against the boxing legend two years ago.McGregor felt referee Robert Byrd stopped the fight too early, telling reporters afterwards: “I would have liked to have hit the floor, he should have let me keep going.”

However, this was something that many boxing fans on social media - plus McGregor’s pre-fight sparring partner Paulie Malignaggi - disagreed with.

Mayweather landed a series of blows on McGregor in the tenth and appeared to be on the verge of knocking the Irishman down to the canvas.

Mayweather reveals what he said to McGregor after Round 5

This was at the end of the fifth round when Mayweather pushed his opponent after the bell.

The American could be seen saying something to McGregor - and he told reporters what he said after his victory.

Per the Mirror, Mayweather revealed: ”I said: 'You still haven't knocked me out? You said it wouldn't go past four, when are you going to use your power?'"

Mayweather: I still have a hell of an IQ

After the fight, Mayweather described McGregor as “solid” but stopped short of admitting he was ever troubled by the UFC icon.

"He was solid, but I've been off for a couple of years and I'm older now,” he added. "I still have a hell of an IQ and I'm still a thinker.

"His punching power is solid but I've felt it before so I kept coming forward. It wasn't the kind of power that stopped me coming forward.

"I told you guys I'd come straight ahead. I could have sat back and counter-punched. My plan was to let him shoot heavy shots and take him down the stretch.

"I wanted to let him shoot heavy shots from the beginning."
