Peterborough have been thwarted in their attempts to sign Crewe striker Calvin Zola after his asking price was set at £1million.
Zola has been in imperious form for Alex this season, which led Posh director of football Barry Fry to ask about his availability. However, Fry was knocked back in his attempts to add firepower to the faltering Peterborough attack.
"We have made some inquiries and Zola was a player we asked about," he told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
"I spoke to Dario [Gradi] to see whether Crewe were willing to sell and what the price would be.
"He told me £1m so I wished him good luck for the rest of the season and put the phone down."
