Even to this day, WWE fans are wondering what really happened behind the scenes which caused CM Punk to walk out and never return.

There’s always a chance that the former WWE Champion makes a comeback, as stranger things have happened in the organisation while even the most bitter of relationships have eventually been fixed, and it’s clear by the constant chanting in certain cities that fans want him back.

EXIT

CM Punk seems to be content with the way life is going right now, as he’s currently on the UFC’s roster after a torrid debut last year against Mickey Gall, but there’s been speculation that he could have his second fight in 2018.

The fact that he effortlessly succeeded in blurring the lines between fiction and reality is what made him a unique talent, and it’s why WWE fans were saddened by his sour departure while nobody has been able to step up and fill his big boots.

Somebody who knows him very well is Paul Heyman, who is currently aligned with Brock Lesnar on Monday Night RAW as they gear up for a Universal Championship defence against Braun Strowman at No Mercy.

Heyman was alongside Punk during the height of his success when he was WWE Champion, before turning his back on him to put his sole focus in The Beast Incarnate.

HEYMAN'S THOUGHTS

Behind the scenes, the two remain good friends and as always, questions of his departure were brought up to Heyman when he appeared alongside Jim Ross at the Gotham Comedy Club earlier this month.

Per Inside the Ropes, Heyman said: “What do I think of him walking out?

“He wasn’t happy anymore and if you know what drives Phil Brooks more than anything is that he’s an overachiever. So, there came a time where he didn’t have that passion anymore for WWE and when you get to that point you have two options.

“You can stay and be miserable, or you get out and you chase something else that really entices your passion, so he got out.

“Now, he’s pursuing something that makes him happy. Whether it makes me happy or you happy or the rest of the world happy, it doesn’t really matter. It makes him happy.

“At the end of the day, it’s a decision that he made on his own behalf and if that’s what he wants then God bless him, I hope he finds happiness in it.”

Punk’s stance doesn’t seem to be changing, so perhaps it’s something WWE fans need to come to terms with as well.
