Arsenal suffered yet another away day humiliation on Sunday afternoon as they were beaten 4-0 at Anfield by a rampant Liverpool side.

Unfortunately for Gunners fans, it's not an unfamiliar outcome, given the fact that Arsenal have lost 8-2 at Old Trafford, 5-1 on multiple occasions to Bayern Munich and shipped six goals at both Chelsea and Manchester City all in recent memory.

Liverpool's attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were outstanding, but at the same time, Arsene Wenger's men produced an extremely lacklustre display.

They failed to register a single shot on target, and in Sky Sports' post-match analysis, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Graeme Souness and even club legend Thierry Henry all ripped into the team.

Why always Ozil?

Mesut Ozil is the player who seems to always receive the most criticism when things don't go well for Arsenal, and he took to social media hours after the horror show on Merseyside.

The German's laid-back, nonchalant style on the pitch often leads to people questioning his commitment, but he did nothing to silence those doubters against Liverpool.

As Neville pointed out in commentary, his reaction when Arsenal lost possession was non-existent, and he, along with fellow midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka, were slammed for their ill-discipline.

Ozil apologises to Arsenal fans

Amidst all the negative fallout from the result, Ozil posted a lengthy Instagram message to Gunners supporters on Sunday night before heading off to international duty.

"Blame us, shout at us, criticise us, but I'm also very disappointed about today's game", the talented attacking midfielder began.

"We wanted to achieve a positive result before the international break but we were simply not good enough during the 90 minutes and Liverpool deserved the win without a doubt.

"Usually I'm too angry to post on social media after such frustrating days like today, but I don't want to let this match go uncommented before travelling to the DFB (German) Team."

Ozil continued: "Nevertheless... Gunners, I'm sorry - especially for the fans who travelled all the way up to Liverpool to see us fighting.

"But we will try everything to improve in the next game and bounce back from the disappointment we are all feeling at the moment."

The result, which came after a 1-0 loss at Stoke City, leaves Wenger's side down in 16th place at this very early stage of the 2017-18 campaign.

Ozil deserves credit for addressing the performance instead of hiding away, but things must improve dramatically on the pitch for Arsenal to have any chance of success this season.
