We may only be three games into the new Premier League season but it has been the same old Arsenal.

The Gunners slipped to their second defeat in as many matches with an embarrassing 4-0 drubbing at Liverpool on Sunday to suggest Arsene Wenger's men are still miles away from being able to compete for the title.

There was a lack of fight, character, guile and just a basic defensive understanding throughout the Arsenal side that almost made the loss at Anfield inevitable as soon as the hosts grabbed the opening goal.

You don't need to be Gary Neville to recognise Liverpool are always at their most dangerous in the first 25 minutes of a game, particularly at Anfield.

And that's exactly why it was so important for the Gunners to sit in and weather that early storm for them to have any chance of coming away with some points.

But yet again Arsenal's approach was naive and they were deservedly punished when Roberto Firmino broke the deadlock with a glancing header in the 17th minute.

Granit Xhaka initially looked like he was the biggest culprit by conceding possession so easily in Arsenal's half but his central midfield partner Aaron Ramsey was also to blame.

Jamie Carragher spotted the Welshman, miles out of position, not even looking at the ball and chatting to someone on the Arsenal bench as Xhaka was given possession.

And the Sky Sports pundit absolutely destroyed Ramsey for it - see the video below.

Carragher's analysis is spot on. How can Arsenal expect their record against the big the teams in the Premier League to improve when one of their more experienced midfielders is making such schoolboy errors.

As if that wasn't bad enough for the Arsenal midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum embarrassed him twice in the space of a few seconds while on one of his twisty runs later on in the half.

Unsurprisingly, Ramsey was hooked off by Wenger at half-time but the significant damage was already done and there was no way back.
