Just hours before the sporting event of the year, the notorious Conor McGregor added a full stone to his Friday weigh-in, which read 153lb at the time, just below the 154lb limit.

Depriving his body of sufficient amounts of water and carbohydrates, once weighed in, McGregor returned to his favored fighting weight of 170lb.

The change and harsh treatment of his body just hours before the fight may have proved to been the key to McGregor's demise, as after a powerful first few rounds, fatigue very clearly sat in on McGregor, which Mayweather exploited to victory.

In the first rounds, McGregor came out all guns blazing, swinging hard with some decent hits and lots of energy, but it eventually caught up to him during the later rounds, that eventually saw Mayweather win by TKO in the 10th round.

In fact, the Irishman had actually won the first three rounds according to the fight judges, but it was his fitness levels that eventually let him down.

Not used to the amount of rounds in boxing, McGregor's body slowly gave up on him, and by the tenth, he was barely able to stand after receiving several big punches to the face from the American.

Following his defeat to Mayweather, McGregor took to the press to explain that fatigue got the better of him, and that if he had more in the tank, then Mayweather would have had a run for his money.

Given now that the information about McGregor's shocking weight fluctuation, one can only imagine the fight that would have happened if he had not deprived his body of the nutrients he needed.

That we shall never know, but one thing is for sure, McGregor put on a better display than most anticipated.

With this victory under his belt, Floyd Mayweather continues his undefeated legacy at 40 years of age as he goes back into retirement from the sport.

For Mayweather it is 50-0, but for McGregor, it's currently 0-1. Paulie Maglinaggi up next, anybody?
