It's not very often that WWE has Champion vs Champion matches, but sometimes they're some of the best matches the company puts on, and they're teasing one for the future. There have been numerous Champion vs Champion matches in the WWE over the years that have raised the roof off of the arenas which they took place in. Champion vs Champion matches usually bring the best out of both competitors inside the ring, and the next Champion vs Champion clash that the WWE is teasing should be no different. If you have kept your eye on WWE's Twitter page recently, you would have noticed the two champions trash talking one another after the company sent out a simple tweet asking fans for their opinion on who was better.

That tweet was about The Usos and Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins, teasing a possible future match between the SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions and the Monday Night RAW Tag Team Champions.

Both of these tag teams are amazing performers in the ring, and it should be an excellent match if it were to take place. With this match in mind, here are five of the best Champion vs Champion matches in WWE history.

5. Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon

One of the biggest feuds entering WrestleMania X was between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon over who truly was the Intercontinental Champion. Michaels was initially stripped of the title because he didn't defend it enough (funny how that rule only applies to some champions today), but he refused to acknowledge this.

Ramon won the vacant Intercontinental title at in a battle royal but was later attacked by HBK, setting up their match at WrestleMania X, and it produced one of the best ladder matches of all time. The match between Michaels and Ramon was so good it received five-stars from top wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer.

4. John Cena vs CM Punk

It was the icing on the cake of arguably one of the best feuds WWE has ever produced between CM Punk and John Cena. Punk 'left' the company after winning the WWE title at the Money in the Bank in 2011, keeping the championship. WWE hosted a tournament to decide a “new” champion that was won by Rey Mysterio won, but he was then beaten by Cena later on in the same night.

Punk then made his WWE 'return' on the same night as well, setting up a match between the two at SummerSlam to decide who was the undisputed WWE Champion. Punk won the match cleanly surprisingly, but his celebrations were cut short when he was attacked by Kevin Nash and Alberto Del Rio cashed in and took the title from him.

3. John Cena vs Seth Rollins

Arguably one of the best Champion vs Champion matches in recent times, Cena showed up once again to put on an awesome match, this time as United States Champion against WWE Champion Seth Rollins.

Donning all-white ring gear, Rollins put on a master class of wrestling athleticism, and unsurprisingly, Cena managed to keep up with him as both superstars countered each other's moves. Thanks to the help of Jon Stewart, The Architect won the match and become the first superstar to hold both titles simultaneously.

2. Chris Jericho vs Stone Cold Steve Austin

In one of the most surprising nights in WWE history, Chris Jericho became the Undisputed WWE Champion after defeating Stone Cold Steve Austin at Vengence in 2001 in a Title Unification match for the World Championship and WWF Championship.

Earlier on in the night, Stone Cold kept hold of the WWF title after fending off Kurt Angle, while Jericho captured the World title after defeating The Rock, so what makes this achievement even more special is that Jericho defeated two champions in The Rock and Stone Cold on the same night to become Undisputed WWE Champion. There's one match that tops this one though.

1. Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior

This Champion vs Champion match might never be topped, as at the time, it featured two of the companies biggest stars in WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and the Intercontinental Champion The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VI.

You would think Hogan being WWF Champion, he would win the match, but it was The Ultimate Warrior that would, in fact, come out of this match victorious, unifying the two titles and taking the Intercontinental title to a level it had never reached before on the grandest wrestling stage of all.
