The Philadelphia 76ers have finally been given some good news on the injury front after Ben Simmons was reportedly cleared for all basketball activities.

The young Australian missed the entirety of last season after suffering a broken foot prior to the start of the campaign.

He was initially due to return for the second part of the year, but he suffered a setback and the team decided to shut him down for good.

However, the 21-year-old now appears to be back to full health and is ready to show why the 76ers selected him with the number one overall pick in 2016.

He will surely be a contender for the Rookie of the Year award but he'll be competing with a talented 2017 draft class that features his teammate Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, Jayson Tatum, De'Aaron Fox, Josh Jackson and Dennis Smith Jr.

Some betting outlets have named Simmons as the favourite but he has no interest in competing with the rookies of the league next season, he has much loftier goals than that.

"My goal is to be the best in the league," he told ESPN's Niall Seewang. "I'm not worried about other rookies - I'm worried about the guys at the top, and that's where I want to be."

The Aussie star is hugely confident in his own ability and is desperate to make his NBA bow to showcase his unquestionable talent.

He will be one of multiple young stars on the Sixers roster next year as they seek to finally end a long period of losing.

With Fultz, Joel Embiid and Dario Saric also on their books, Philly will have a realistic shot at making the playoffs.

The additions of veterans J.J. Redick and Amir Johnson will also add some leadership to their locker room and Simmons has high hopes for the campaign ahead.

"Physically I feel really good. [I am] ready to play and get the season started," he said. "I've just got to go out and work hard ... and if everyone in the team does the same thing, I think we can do great things.

"Our goal is to get there [to the playoffs] and win. We don't doubt each other, as long as we work hard we might [be able to].

"We have a great young team. ... I think we can do some great things, I'm looking forward to heading back to Philly."

With the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers and Atlanta Hawks all losing All-Star players this summer, there are a number of playoff spots that could potentially open up and the 76ers certainly have the talent to take one.
