Buckle up, football fans. Transfer deadline day is approaching.

The final day of the summer transfer window promises to be an exciting one, with Philippe Coutinho, Alexis Sanchez and Thomas Lemar among the high-profile players linked with a move.

Arsenal look destined to lose Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was granted permission to undergo a medical ahead of a £35 million move to Chelsea, and the England international might not be the only player heading out of the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Mirror’s John Cross broke the news this morning that Manchester City have offered Raheem Sterling plus cash to Arsenal in exchange for Sanchez.

It seems a decent offer for Arsenal to accept considering they will get nothing for Sanchez in the summer of 2018, provided the Chilean doesn’t sign a contract extension.

Sterling is still just 22-years-old and has made a positive start to the season for Man City, scoring twice in their opening three Premier League matches.

As well as Sterling, Arsenal would also receive around £20m in the deal.

How Sterling has reacted to the offer

Arsenal have already rejected an offer of £50m for Sanchez this summer and it remains to be seen how they will approach Man City’s latest offer.

Even if they do accept, it’s likely they will have a hard time convincing Sterling to agree to personal terms - The Guardian claim the former Liverpool winger is “bemused” at City’s decision to offer him to Arsenal.

That is hardly a surprise. Sterling has played in all three matches for City this season and has began to look like a player worthy of a £49m price tag.

And leaving the Etihad Stadium for Arsenal would certainly be considered a downgrade right now.

Man City look like title contenders while the Gunners are a club in disarray following Sunday’s woeful 4-0 loss to Liverpool.

But first, Arsenal have to accept the bid. Arsene Wenger has repeatedly insisted that Sanchez won’t be sold this summer, the Frenchman preferring to allow the forward to run out his contract.

“There is no development, always the same, he is staying of course,” Wenger said in July.
