Despite being unsuccessful when coming up against Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor may have started a trend in combat sports.

Andre Berto, a two-time welterweight world champion, and the man that Mayweather went 12 rounds with, has signalled his intention to cross over to the UFC.

Berto, who possesses an impressive boxing record of 31-5, has a great deal of heritage in the sport, with his father Dieuseul on one of the first MMA cards (UFC 10), while his sister Revelina and brother James (17-12-1) have fought in more recent times.

The Sun reported Berto as saying: "Dana White, you know me, you know my family has been in the MMA for a while. I am coming to the UFC, so call me.

"Tell Dana to call me, I’ll go to the UFC.

“I want be the first fighter ever to be a world champion in boxing and then go get a UFC world title. It’s never been done.”

The 33-year-old Haitian welterweight won his first 27 fights before tasting defeat for the first time against Victor Ortiz by an unanimous decision in 2011.

Since then, he has only fought eight times, where his record has been 3-5.

However, unlike some fighters, he is not afraid to fight the top men in his division, with his last fight against Shaun Porter who, at the time, was (26-2-1).

The fight was a physical one with plenty of head clashes between the duo and was eventually stopped in the ninth round after Berto was knocked down, after being worn down by a barrage of body punches.

Porter was well ahead on the judges' cards at the time of the stoppage.

So it remains to be seen what career path Berto goes down now, but it appears he is more than willing to go in a new direction and cross over to the MMA ranks.

Only thing standing in his way now for his plan to come to fruition is to hear from Dana White now.
