It’s hard to find a reason to be positive about Arsenal right now.

The Gunners are 16th in the Premier League table following Sunday’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool and this week looks likely to be another frustrating one for the club’s supporters.

The transfer window shuts on Thursday but Arsenal appear more likely to sell than they are to buy right now.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Liverpool while Alexis Sanchez could be on his way to Manchester City.

Losing both players, with little time to replace them, would be another blow in what has already been an awful start to the season.

It was reported on Monday that Arsenal had agreed to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea for £40 million but the player has since snubbed the move, instead preferring to sign for Liverpool.

In the 24-year-old’s eyes, he wouldn’t get the chance to play in his ideal central position at Stamford Bridge and has therefore rejected the move to the Premier League champions.

He instead wants Liverpool, and Liverpool want him, too.

Arsenal have responded to Liverpool's £30m bid

According to James Olley of the Evening Standard, Liverpool have submitted a bid in the region of £30m for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

But Arsenal have rejected the offer.

Liverpool submitted the lower bid after it emerged that the England international was seeking a move to Anfield.

Yet despite his desire to leave, Arsenal will not sell unless Liverpool meet their valuation.

Not only does the former Southampton player believe he stands a greater chance of playing as a central midfielder under Jurgen Klopp but he also values the stability surrounding the Merseyside club.

It’s in contrast to the situation in west London where, despite leading Chelsea to the title in his first season at the club, Antonio Conte’s long-term future remains in doubt.

Chelsea remain in contact with Oxlade-Chamberlain however, so the potential transfer isn’t completely dead.

Liverpool know, from Chelsea’s bid, that £40m should be enough to convince Arsenal to sell.

They could also wait until next summer to try to land Oxlade-Chamberlain on a free transfer. The player has shown no indication that he will sign a contract extension at the Emirates Stadium.
