It’s all happening at Chelsea right now.

Give or take a shock defeat to Burnley, the Blues have made an impressive start to the season but Antonio Conte is still wary over the depth of his squad.

The ignominious title defence of 2015 demonstrates the risk of failing to improve while at the top. In light of this, Conte has sought to bolster every area of his side with the captures of Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rüdiger.

Yet the rumour mill ahead of deadline day has continued to revolve around the Blues.

While clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester City are eyeing up big, individual deals ahead of 11pm on Thursday, Chelsea are plotting something of a splurge.

The west London club has been linked with a plethora of homegrown stars. A £35 million fee has been agreed with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, negotiations are ongoing with Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater has handed in a transfer request.

Of course, it’s unlikely that the Blues would seek to wrap up all three deals but the ambition and intentions are there.

And the interest may not be limited to England but a Spaniard taking residence in Wales. It seems Chelsea’s pursuit of Fernando Llorente has experienced something of a renaissance with the deadline looming.

The forward thrived under Conte during their time at Juventus and found the net on 15 occasions during his first season in the Premier League. The latter is certainly impressive when you consider Swansea City’s relegation fight.

According to the Mirror too, a deal could be close.

The news arrives after Chelsea failed to secure the Spaniard’s services back in January. With Diego Costa’s future even more certain now, the Blues’ chase has done nothing but accelerate.

Conte is hopeful that Swansea would accept a £15 million bid for the 32-year-old with the Swans plotting a reunion with Wilfried Bony.

It could pave the way for the exits of Michy Batshuayi and Loic Remy. The case of the latter proves rather curious with the Frenchman hardly featuring since the Premier League title win of 2015.

As for Batshuayi; despite an impressive pre-season, he has already slipped behind Morata in the pecking order. A weak performance versus Burnley and scoring for Tottenham have punctuated his campaign.

The addition of Llorente would give Chelsea an extra option going forward but it would undoubtedly divide supporters.

The Spaniard is deep in his thirties, has limited experience at top clubs and with Morata’s two goals so far coming from headers, casts doubts over whether he offers much difference.

Well, you can’t fault Chelsea for being boring, at least.
