Jose Aldo may be looking at the exit door on his pro-MMA career.

There’s no doubt that Aldo has made an impact on the history of MMA (mixed martial arts). He was the fourth and final WEC Featherweight Champion and thus, became the first UFC Featherweight Champion during the UFC/WEC merger.

By looking at his career, he is a former two-time UFC Featherweight Champion and currently #12 in official UFC pound-for-pound rankings, having been ranked as high as #1 in 2015. Between November 2005 through December 2015, Aldo was undefeated in 18 fights. Several fighters and media members have called him the greatest featherweight in mixed martial arts history.

However, Aldo’s MMA career may be coming to an end due to his desire to pursue a boxing career. He doesn’t want to have one fight but rather make a transition into being a professional boxer. The former UFC featherweight champion returns to Brazil on Friday after spending time in California by training at Robert Garcia’s gym.

Aldo’s Nova Uniao coach Andre Pederneiras recently did an interview with MMA Fighting, and during the interview, he noted that his fighter's training wasn’t focused on his MMA career.

"He’s training boxing because he has this dream of competing in professional boxing,” Pederneiras said. "If it was up to him, he’d fight all of his UFC fights (left on the contract) in three months and go box. He wants to box professionally. He doesn’t want to stay inactive for a long time,” Pederneiras said, "and there’s both sides: he definitely wants to finish the contract."

Keep in mind that Aldo will still have to fight out his contract with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) before jumping into boxing. He currently has four fights left on his UFC deal and wants to be back in action as soon as possible. Although he has been on fire as of late, he has suffered recent losses to UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. Those are his only two losses since moving from WEC to UFC. According to Pederneiras, Aldo will be more aggressive as a former champion

Fight fans still do not know when Aldo will return to the world famous Octagon and grace us with his fighting abilities. However, a fight that has been rumored has led to excitement within the fight game. That fight would be a rematch with Cub Swanson around November or December is the most likely scenario.

"We’re waiting for the UFC,” Pederneiras said. "We’re trying to get this fight done, against Cub Swanson or someone else. He wants to fight (against) someone well ranked, and wait for an opportunity to fight for the belt."
