The Northern Ireland Football Association confirmed contract talks with manager Nigel Worthington were "ongoing" on Friday.

Worthington's current deal expires at the end of the year and there has been speculation discussions over an extension had stalled.

But the Irish FA (IFA) today told Press Association Sport: "The IFA can confirm talks took place on Thursday with Nigel Worthington regarding a new contract and the talks are still ongoing."

The former Norwich boss is keen to stay on with the province after a World Cup qualifying campaign which saw them finish fourth in Group Three.

Following the qualifier against Serbia last month, he said: "I have enjoyed it. If everything is right, yes I would like to stay on. I feel we have come on in leaps and bounds. People can see we are trying to play good football and that is important to me."
